Pacquiao Loses To Sergio Martinez As "Fighter Of The Year"
Pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao, three-time winner of the “Fighter of the Year” award has lost out to world middleweight champion Sergio Martinez in this year’s poll by the prestigious Boxing Writers Association of America.
BWAA president Jack Hirsch informed the Inquirer that the BWAA voted Martinez over Pacquiao, the fighter who achieved an incredible record of eight world titles in eight different weight divisions.
Hirsch said “while his star pupil Pacquiao was runner-up in the “Fighter of the Year” award, trainer Freddie Roach maintained his perennial position as “Trainer of the Year” to win the award for the third time in a row and the fifth time overall. The award has always had special meaning for Roach as it is named after his mentor Eddie Futch.”
Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz told the Inquirer that Pacquiao wished to “congratulate Martinez and all the other winners and nominees for the efforts they put in, especially all of the winners. They deserve it.”
Koncz said “its not upsetting that somebody else had a chance. Manny has received so many accolades that he is not one to be disappointed if he doesn’t win something. He appreciates them when we do but he’s not disappointed when we don’t.”
WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan who was pushed to the limit in winning a unanimous twelve round decision over Marcos Maidana last December shared the “Ali-Frazier” award for “Fight of the Year.”
Khan trained alongside Pacquiao as the Philippines national sports hero prepared for his vacant WBC light middleweight/super welterweight title fight against Antonio Margarito last November at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Texas . Pacquiao pulverized Margarito to win by a twelve round shutout.
The award itself is linked to the Philippines as it was at the Araneta Coliseum on October 1, 1975 that Muhammad Ali defeated Joe Frazier in an epic battle considered the greatest heavyweight championship fight of all-time.(philboxing.com)
Floyd Mayweather Jr: "I Will Fight Manny Pacquiao"
Speaking to his fans over UStream, Mayweather - in an irritated and agitated tone - addressed his followers:
"I want to talk to my fans. Okay, I got y'all . . . . I'm never gonna let my fans down. Not me. That's the reason why I'm 41 - 0."
The boxer spoke of a potential showdown with the Filipino legend:
"Don't worry we're gonna beat Poochie-iao's ass. Stop asking the same question. 'When are you gonna fight Poochie-iao?' I'm gonna fight the Pacman. Do me a favor . . . . I'm gonna fight the Pacman when he is off the power pellets."
With the statement, Mayweather seemed to continue to voice his suspicions that Pacquiao's historic winning streak against much larger opponents is aided by performance-enhancement drugs (PEDs). (examiner.com)

Boxlink's View On Pacquiao vs Mosley
26 Dec.2010 London- This author has been a supporter of boxing for years especially of Manny Pacquiao. I've watched almost all of Pacquiao's fight since his early fights as a Flyweight on Blow by Blow in the Philippines and seen Manny gradually became the best in the sport today. And he deserved that. I didn't have any problem or complain when he fought Diaz, Dela Hoya, Hatton and Cotto. Those were great fights and good match-ups (Eventhough Cotto is also from Top rank). But when Top Rank's Bob Arum made Pacquiao fight Joshua Clottey (which many seen as a boring fight), I started to think that Mr. Arum is not listening to the fans clamor. He seems to think only of his business and how to earn more money by making Pacquiao fight boxers from his stable. Which obviously will make more profit for his Top Rank Promotions. Then there was Antonio Margarito who is also promoted by Bob Arum. After a year of suspension, Mr. Arum gave Margarito a nice gift by giving him the fight with Pacquiao. And now Bob Arum made Pacquiao vs Mosley. When Shane Mosley was still promoted by Golden Boy and wanted a shot with Pacquiao, Bob Arum said that Shane is too old for Manny. Now that Mosley is an independent boxer, Mr. Arum grabbed him and gave him the Pacquiao sweepstakes. Because Top Rank will earn more money now than when Mosley was with Golden Boy. To me Bob Arum never listen to us boxing fans. He is a greedy and selfish old man (Again, Pacquiao's last three fights, Cotto, Clottey and Margarito are all promoted by Bob Arum).
These are the reasons why Boxlink, for the very first time, WILL NOT SUPPORT THE PACQUIAO-MOSLEY FIGHT. I want Bob Arum to know that we, boxing fans are not stupid. That we will not just watch any fight he wanted us to see. Manny Pacquiao deserves a better fight with either Juan Manuel Marquez or Andre Berto aside from Floyd Mayweather Jr. Boxlink will not spend a penny to buy pay-per-view that will give more profit to the greedy old man. -grsg03/boxlink
